Discipleship

Teaching from Zion 38 - June 2019

by Netivyah Staff & Friends

This issue of Teaching from Zion focuses on the topic of discipleship. This is an issue of fundamental importance, however, it has largely fallen into obscurity around the world. Discipleship is not a class, nor is it greeting your brother once a week to ask how he is doing. Discipleship is a full-time, simultaneously personal and reverent relationship between a student and his master. This model is what guarded Judaism for ages and what instructed new participants to nascent Christianity. Learning Torah is only half of the equation in discipleship; teaching is the other half. For what good is learning if you do not teach it to others (by word and deed), and what good is teaching if you do not receive difficult questions that drive you to continue learning?
