Joseph Shulam – From home in Israel
It is nice to be at home.  It was nice to travel and teach a group of Chinese from all around Asia through the seven churches of Asia Minor.  Traveling through the Bible Lands, and Turkey is a Bible Land, is always inspirational and educational and fun.  Being in the places that you read about in the Bible is something very special.  We believe because we want to believe.  The Biblical truths are most often self evident to the soul that believes. This does not mean that the evidence can’t be examined and tested and tried, but it does mean that the power of faith is greater than the power of facts.  All that said it is still wonderful to see that cities like Laodicea really exist and that there is clear evidence that in that city before Constantine paganized Christianity there were really communities of Jews and Gentiles who followed the messiah Yeshua.  These communities left physical evidence.  It is nice to be in places like Ephesus and walk on the streets that Paul and Barnabas must have walked.  It is nice to be in the ancient Theater of Ephesus where the crowed gathered against Paul and screamed all at once; “Now when they heard this, they were full of wrath and cried out, saying, “Great is Diana of the Ephesians!”  29 So the whole city was filled with confusion, and rushed into the theater with one accord, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, Paul’s travel companions.  30 And when Paul wanted to go in to the people, the disciples would not allow him.  31 Then some of the officials of Asia, who were his friends, sent to him pleading that he would not venture into the theater.  32 Some therefore cried one thing and some another, for the assembly was confused, and most of them did not know why they had come together.  33 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander motioned with his hand, and wanted to make his defense to the people.  34 But when they found out that he was a Jew, all with one voice cried out for about two hours, “Great is Diana of the Ephesians!”  (Acts 19:28-34)  The goddess Diana is the Latin (Roman) name of the Greek goddess Artemis.  Just imagine sitting on the theater seats in Ephesus where the crowed was judging Paul near two thousand years ago.  I believed in God and in Yeshua long before I could imagine visiting Ephesus, Sardis, Pergamum, Philadelphia, Laodicea, Thyatira, and Smyrna.  I didn’t need to see this places to believe, but seeing and touching and walking in the streets of these cities, like in Jerusalem, Capernaum, Nazareth, or Bethlehem, certainly wakens up some spiritual glands in me that say, “Is you see this is all true.”  No one could have written this text if he was not a first hand witness of the events.  The streets and the stones of the pagan temples of these ancient cities speak and echo the message of Paul and Barnabas.  That message is still living in Jews, Chinese, Japanese, Americans, South Americans, Africans, Asians, Arabs and people of every race, but these great temples like the Great Temple of Artemis in Ephesus are in ruins and only a silent and weathered marble pillar stands a witness of the former physical beauty of the great marble temple.  The Good News of a Jew named Yeshua is still alive and changing lives all around the Good Lord’s Earth.

Marcia and I, we are traveling next week to Finland to fellowship and share with our brothers and sisters there for 12 days, and from there to California, Texas, and Tennessee.  Please keep us in your prayers for safety and for Marcia’s health.

Danah our daughter is going to have surgery this week in California.  Beth our daughter-in-law is with Danah and Noaam.  Please pray for Danah and for the doctors that are going to perform this surgery.  Please pray that all the results will come out good and the recovery will be quick.  Please pray for Beth and Noaam to have an easy time taking care of Danah.  There is nothing more worrisome than having your children sick and in need of surgery and you being far away in another continent.  We appreciate Beth flying to California to help Danah and Noaam.

Pray for many open minded Muslims in Turkey who are searching the Scriptures and looking for truth in the Word of God.  Many Muslims see the events in the Muslim world these days and are generating a sane reaction of study and examination and evaluation.  These people need God’s help and our blessing and prayers.  God should give these men and women protection and courage and Holy Spirit leading.

Zvi Liveny is still in the hospital suffering.  Please pray for Zvi and for Sara his wife.  These are such a faithful and dedicated brothers in the faith.  They are both survivors of the holocaust and I pray for God to show His mercy on this family and their children.

I ask you to pray for two new congregations connected to Netivyah.  One is in Brazil and the other is near Helsinki, Finland.  These are both new congregations with young leadership, young families, and very dedicated brothers and sisters who are seeking the path of restoration for a return to the community back to the faith and practices of the brothers in the book of Acts.

Please keep praying for our brothers and sisters who need healing and need a show of God’s grace in their lives.

In Jerusalem: Tatiana, Sara L., Zvi D., Ahuva, Ilana, Leah, Marcia, Hannah, David S., Naomi, Sarit, and Miriam.

We pray for the following dear brothers and sisters: Pastor Curita in Tokyo, Toru San, and the husband of Yumi, Sadako San, Shoko San, Takeo Sensei and Tomoko San all in Japan.

We have brothers and sisters who are not physically sick, but they need the hand of God’s blessing on their lives:  Michael Knezevich in Portland, Raymond and his family and his company, Laurel S., and please add to this prayer all those people whom you know and ask the Mighty God of Israel and Yeshua our Messiah to show their mercy and grace on these fine disciples of Yeshua.

Please pray for Marcelo and Matheus and their family and ministry in Brazil.  These great servants of God need strength and a refreshing strength and energy  to keep doing the Work of the Lord.

I pray and would like to ask you to pray with me for all those many brothers and sisters who are supporting Netivyah in prayer and financially and making it possible for Netivyah to do the work of the Lord in Israel, and in many other places around the world.  My prayer for all those who are standing with Netivyah is that all the promises of God be fulfilled visibly in their lives.  May the Lord bless them all and keep them and provide for all their needs so that they can taste the grace of the Lord even now in this life and continue to be gracious witnesses of God’s love in Yeshua.

God bless you all and keep you and make His face to shine upon you!
