Jerusalem Prayer List July 19, 2018

Last Shabbat we finished reading the book of Numbers and this Shabbat we are starting to read the book of Deuteronomy. The book of Deuteronomy is actually a record of a speech that Moses delivers to the people of Israel as they are camped out in front of Jericho on the other side of the Jordan River. The people of Israel are about to cross over to the Land that God promised Israel as a possession forever. Moses is not going to cross with them. He is going to climb up to the Pisgah (the peek) of Mount Nebo and die. In the first chapters of Deuteronomy Moses takes advantage of the occasion to review some of the events in history that took place in Israel’s past and right of the start he encourages the people of Israel to get up and go take possession of the land that God promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and to their offspring.

Moses affirms that from the beginning he confessed that he is not able to lead (bear) this nation by himself. For a leader like Moses to confess:

“How can I bear by myself the weight and burden of you and your strife? Choose for your tribes wise, understanding, and experienced men, and I will appoint them as your heads.’ And you answered me, ‘The thing that you have spoken is good for us to do.’” (Deut 1:12-14)

As a leader of a ministry in Jerusalem for more than 50 years, I can identify with Moses 100%. I have often said that a Christian Pastor of a church of 10,000 people has an easier job than leading 100 Jews in Jerusalem. This is not a complaint against the people of the Roeh Israel congregation in Jerusalem. It is just a fact that history bears truth. On the other hand I would not trade my place as a leader of 100 Jews in Jerusalem to any pastor of any 10,000 members church. You see Moses knows already what will happen in the History of Israel. God has revealed to Moses the whole history of the nation of Israel all the way to the very end of History. Moses knows that this nation, stiff necked, stubborn, complaining, is the only nation that can carry through the divine mission to save the world from idolatry, and restore humanity to a true relationship with the Creator of the Universe, the Lord God who created the world and everything that is in it. Humanity chose to rebel against the Creator and to worship the creature rather than the Creator, and God chose Israel (knowing all of our shortcomings and attitudes) to restore the human race back to Him who is the father of us all. Reading the first chapters of Deuteronomy one could easily conclude that God made a mistake in choosing Israel to be the tool of salvation for the whole World. However, you see God knew the future before it happened, and He knew that if the nation as whole does not carry the ball there will be one Jew that will break through the lineup of the opposition and take the ball to the end line and do the touch-down and score the goal. The Apostle Paul writes the letter to the Romans and his central theme is that God did not make a mistake in choosing Israel, because in the End the whole nation of Israel will be saved and bring the salvation to the whole World.

Moses recounts the 40-year journey in the wilderness with this horde of people who were born into slavery and knew only slavery in Egypt. For Moses who was raised as the prince of Egypt and chose to leave the life in Pharaoh’s house and identify with these rabble of slaves and lead them out of slavery into freedom, the future of Israel and success of his life’s mission was of the greatest importance. In this speech (that would take two and a half hours to read) in the heat of the Jordan valley, out-doors, and without a microphone, Moses starts with criticism, but ends the speech with blessing each tribe of Israel. Moses and the prophets of Israel see this period of 40 years wondering in the wilderness of Sinai as one of the greatest period of God’s relationship with the people of Israel.

Some Christians look at this 40-year period and come up with reinforcement for their anti-Jewish, anti-Israel, preconceptions. However, this is not how Moses sees it and not how Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, or the other prophets of God see the history of Israel. The prophet see these 40-years in the wilderness as God’s honey-moon with Israel as His bride:

“Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem, Thus says the LORD, ‘I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a bride, how you followed me in the wilderness, in a land not sown. Israel was holy to the LORD, the firstfruits of his harvest. All who ate of it incurred guilt; disaster came upon them, declares the LORD.’” (Jeremiah 2:2–3 ESV)

Please keep reading God’s Word regularly and please continue to pray for Israel as a nation and for Netivyah and the Roeh Israel congregation in Jerusalem. The things that the Lord is doing through this ministry in this land and for the people of Israel are so powerful and beyond our ability to describe in print.

Israel is contending with the kite and balloon terrorism from Gaza daily. Hundreds of acres of farm land, parks, and nature preserves, have been set on fire with this simple and cheap and effective terrorist method. Your prayers for Israel and for the Palestinian Hamas terrorists is necessary. If the LORD does not intervene very soon we are about to enter another war with Gaza. If Israel enters another Gaza war this time, it will be with the goal of putting an end to the Hamas in Gaza. There will be many casualties on both sides, but our government is resolved to put an end to the suffering of towns, villages, and farm communities, around the Gaza boarder, but also put an end to the suffering of the 2,000,000 people in Gaza who are living with limited electricity, water, and food. This condition of the people of Gaza is not Israel’s doing it is the doing of the Hamas who uses the money that they receive from the United Nations, and the EU, and from the USA, to arm themselves and dig tunnels to perpetrate terrorist activity against innocent Israeli citizens. Iran is pushing and supporting this terrorist activity in Gaza, and it gives support only for arms and terrorism, but not for food and welfare of the people of Gaza.

Please pray for the following:

  1. Wisdom for Israel’s leadership to know what and when to do what is necessary to bring an end to the rockets and fire-kites, and fire-balloons, from Gaza.
  2. For wisdom and moral aptitude of the Hamas leadership in Gaza so that they will start to care for their own citizens and care for them.
  3. Wisdom for the Palestinian leadership in Ramallah, Abu-Abas, and the P.L.O. to take care of their own people captured in Gaza by the Hamas and Hezbollah.
  4. Pray for the nations of the world to see beyond the vail of lies that the Palestinian leadership is weaving and blinding the eyes of the World.

I pray Lord bless the Palestinian people and bless their leaders to seek the truth and all that is good for their people and peace with Israel. Lord bless Israel and continue to fulfill your promises to Israel and bring the peace between the sons of Isaac and the sons of Ishmael. Amen!

Pray for Jacob Dankani. He is still in ICU in the hospital in Tel-Aviv. Jacob is one of those special characters whom the LORD has chosen to carry on outside the box. Israel and the Kingdom of God need Jacob and the likes of Jacob Damkani. His mission for God and for Israel is not finished and we all pray for his survival and return to full scale working for the Kingdom of God and Israel.

Please pray for Dr. Altamiro and Cassia, these are precious brothers in the Messiah who live in Belo-Horizonte, Brazil. They are both in need of the LORD’s divine touch of healing their bodies and strength. Dr. Altamiro had surgery in his eye and his condition is stable but needs improvement. Cassia is a dear sister who has had several brain surgeries for tumors and we are praying that last one got it all out and she will return to her normal life and continue to praise the Lord.

We at Netivyah are praying for the Lord to use our brothers and sisters to enable us to replace a 14-year-old VW van that is used for the Hamotzi food program and for transportation of older members of our community to services and many other uses of this van. The van is now old enough that we must spend no small amount of money on repair and upkeep. Our prayer is to buy a van that will hold 8 or 9 passengers. In Israel cars cost double of what they cost in the USA, but there is no way to get around this and we live in Israel and submit to the laws. If you can help with this, please ear-mark your contributions for NETIVYAH’s VAN. This van is directly involved with the Hamotzi program and for the youth ministry and for the transportation of people to and from the congregation.

Please pray for the seminar in Sofia, Bulgaria! The seminar is organized by our Bulgarian brothers and sisters both from Bulgaria itself and from other countries. It will be the first time that we are returning to Bulgaria since the day that the Communist party of Bulgaria fell in 1991. On that occasion the LORD made miracles and the fruit of that occasion is still bearing and blessing the King of Kings and His kingdom. We pray for the Lord to use us again. The seminar is going to be from the 9th – 12th day of August in Sofia, in the Coop Hotel. The topic of the seminar is: Restoration of the New Testament Church and Israel.
