Jerusalem Prayer List July 12, 2018

The reading of the Torah this Shabbat is called Matot-Massei (Numbers 30:2–36:13). The reading in all the Synagogues around the world is the end of the book of Numbers. As we read the Word of God and coming into reading the book of Deuteronomy it is already a sign that we are approaching the Feast of Trumpets – that is the end of the reading of the Torah.

In this portion of the Torah we see that two and a half tribes of Israel didn’t want to cross the Jordan River and settle in the Land of Canaan. Their reason where primarily economic. There was a war between Israel and Sihon king of Heshbon, Israel was given a victory over this Amorite Kingdom. The tribes of Gad, Reuven, and half the tribe of Menashe liked that land and desired to stay there with their flocks. These lands were not a part of the original plan of God. This request was to stay in a land that outside the land of Canaan. The leaders of these two and a half tribes come to Moses and put their request before Moses.

“the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, to Eleazar the priest, and to the leaders of the congregation, saying, “Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Shebam, Nebo, and Beon, the country which the LORD defeated before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and your servants have livestock.” Therefore, they said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as a possession. Do not take us over the Jordan.” (Numbers 32:2-5)

Moses does not say to these tribes of Israel, “Sorry, brothers, this part of the land is not included in God’s promise to Abraham our father.” Moses says to them:

“But Moses said to the people of Gad and to the people of Reuben, “Shall your brothers go to the war while you sit here? Why will you discourage the heart of the people of Israel from going over into the land that the LORD has given them? Your fathers did this, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land. For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the people of Israel from going into the land that the LORD had given them.” (Numbers 32:6–10 ESV)

What was the concern of Moses? He was concerned that these tribes will not take a part in the cooperative effort to conquer the land of Canaan. He was worried that these tribes will settle in the good grazing land on the other side of the Jordan and abandon their brothers without taking a share in the war against the seven Canaanite nations. For Moses the most important part was not the land but the unity of the nation of Israel. It was important for Moses and I assume for God also that the integrity of the nation will hold up and that every one will take his share in the national burden and not run off leaving the work for the others.

What shall we learn today from this interesting story?

  1. From the pervious chapters we learn that God is reasonable, and HE can change the Torah (the Law) when it is not longer applicable to the reality of the situation:
    • God heard the complaints of the daughters of Tzlofhad that it is not fair for male children to inherit their father’s wealth and God changed the Torah and made it possible for women in Israel to inherit their father when there are not male children in the family.
    • Now with the tribes of Gad, Reuben and half of Menashe – God, through Moses grants them their wish as long as they fulfill their obligation to the rest of the tribes of Israel.
  2. From the demands of Moses from these two and a half tribes we learn that the collective responsibility is greater than the private responsibility of the individual tribe. If I interpret this principle closer to home – the good of the community that we are a part of is greater than our own private desires or whims.

In conclusion of this point and bringing these principles home to our own situation today! We have a right as individuals and as communities to have our own agenda, our own opinions, and our private desire to see our particular “tribe” or “section” have the best possible for our group. However, we don’t have the privilege or right to abandon the whole of our nation or our faith community. All of us have to see the broader picture and realize that we are a part of a much larger community and our responsibility has to be graded from our smaller circles of fellowship, but it must not stop there. We must look for the good of our own smaller groups, but not forget that we are a part of the larger picture of all those who believe in One God and in Yeshua (Jesus) as our savior and redeemer.

If you look at the Christian denominations today like the tribes of Israel in the ancient world – you might draw the right conclusion of what I am reaching out for. The unity of the Body of the Messiah is something that we all must strive for and fight for and the only way that it can be done is for all of us to change our own narrow minded approach to the faith community and broaden our tents to include and feel responsible for the good and welfare of those who might be out there in left field but still hold the Bible to be the Word of God and Yeshua to be the Messiah and the Holy Spirit to be alive and active in directing the disciples of Yeshua unto all true. There is no value to the restoration of the church if there is no sincere and honest drive for the unity of the body of the Messiah Yeshua. Everything that is restored by different groups pales in front of the need to unite to fight the last battle in the Kingdom of God.

Please work and pray for the unity of the Body of the Messiah. Please widen your view of the Body of the Messiah (Christ) and pray that all will come under the conviction of God’s Word and the Holy Spirit to prepare for the return of the Bride-Groom to take His Bride – the people of God those who have not bowed down to Baal and have not kissed the Ashera.

In the last month and a half, the towns and farm communities that are around the Gaza Strip have suffered several hundred thousand ackers of burned land. This is the time of the harvest and for the farmers this is the cash time. However, the terrorists from Gaza have found a new way, a very primitive way, but effective way to burn fields, forests, farms, wheat fields, Banana groves, barns and houses. They use kites and load the kites, and balloons filled with helium with a fire bomb or with Molotov cocktails they fly them with the sea breeze from West to East and release them over the Israel towns and farms. The damage is already into the billions of Israeli shekels and the tragedy to the ecology and the small wild animals is beyond any value. This is a new and evil technic that the Hamas and Hezbollah have found to harass and destroy.

I ask you to pray that the poor people of Gaza who are being used by their leaders as human shields and infused with hate and venom against the Jewish people and the State of Israel will be delivered by God from the spirit of Amalek. It is because of that spirit of Amalek that God commanded Israel:

““Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you were coming out of Egypt. . .” (Deuteronomy 25:17 NKJV)

I have full confidence in the Lord and in the power of prayer even for such big prayer requests like delivering the Palestinian people from the grip of these terrorist organizations and stopping the blood-shed and enmity between Israel and our Palestinian neighbors. We see the financial and cultural prosperity that the Palestinians have in Israel. It is unprecedented in all the Arab world. You see the beautiful homes that are being built in some of the most remote Arab/Palestinian villages in Samaria, and Judea. The funds for these buildings are generated from the Israeli economy. Their children study in Jerusalem’s Hebrew University and in Haifa, and Tel-Aviv and Beer-Sheva. They have wonderful medical treatments side by side in the same rooms in our hospitals. We have good neighborly relationship and 98% of the populations are already co-existing in peace. We must pray for the seeds of irrational hate of Jews and of Israel will be cleansed by God and that the religious leadership of both communities will raise up above the narrow interests of the politicians and in God’s name bring peace.

Pray for the Prime Minister of Israel to be given by God wisdom and courage to do what is necessary to stop the arson and rockets from Gaza and find ways to help the poor people of Gaza with their humanitarian needs and bring some degree of sanity into their situation.

Pray for the humanitarian work that Netivyah is doing through the HaMotzi – program of feeding the poor of Jerusalem. There are opportunities to take some more neighborhoods in Jerusalem. The city of Jerusalem welfare department is interested in us to expand the HaMotzi program of food distribution. Yuda and Daniel and our fine volunteers are doing such a wonderful and holy work in bringing not only food to the poor of Jerusalem, but also comfort and respect.

The VW van that we have been using in Netivyah was in the shop for a few days. We had to redo the transmission. The van is already 15 years old and big expenses are beginning to come our way to keep this van running. I ask you to pray and if possible talk to your church and community to pray and help Netivyah to get a new van. The van serves the HaMotzi food program, it carries old and young people to the worship service of the Roeh Israel congregation every week. The price of cars and vans in Israel is about 115% percent higher than the same vehicle would be in the USA.

You will notice that Yuda and Adam are filming short video teaching of the Torah portions and placing them in our web page and on Netivyah’s page in I encourage you to go and enjoy Yuda’s teaching from the Torah. I have started last week to talk on the reading from the prophet that is being read in every synagogue around the world.

Next year will be the 40th anniversary of Netivyah becoming a non-profit NGO in Israel. We were one of the first NGO’s of Jewish Disciples of Yeshua in Israel. The young leadership of Netivyah is planning a very special celebration and tour for this occasion. I want to ask you all to pray for this event next year and if you wish to participate please start planning now and saving your money to make this journey. The possible dates that are being discussed for this event are in November 2019.

We arrived in Sofia on the very day that the Bulgarian communist party died. God opened opportunity to teach five nights in a movie house where the anti-communist party was established. There were dozens of people who received the Lord and were baptized. Some of these are not leaders and they are the ones who are organizing this seminar in Sofia. The city of my birth.

Pray for a special seminar that will be held next month in Sofia, Bulgaria. Our Bulgarian brothers and sisters are planning it.
