Jerusalem Prayer List August 1, 2019
by Joseph Shulam
This Shabbat the reading is from the last few chapters of the book of Numbers. This is a double Torah portion. The reading is from Numbers 30:2–36:13. The portion of the haftarah, the prophets, is from Jeremiah 2:4-28, 3:4,4:1,2. This next shabbat, August 3, 2019, is the second of Av, 5779. This means that Friday is Rosh Hodesh, the New Moon of the month of Av.
The month of Av is a very special month. Because it is the month on which so many calamities, and I dare say fulfillments of prophecies of the wrath of God, happened. The Temple of Solomon was destroyed on the ninth of Av. The Temple that Herod the great built was destroyed on the ninth of Av, the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492 was on the same date, and so many other calamities happened on this date of the ninth of Av.
For me, this date is a horrible date for every Jew, and I think for everyone who believes in the God who created the world and still controls it, and dictates human history. You see, all these events in Jewish history happened as the prophets foretold that they would happen, but the prophets didn’t give dates. The fact that the same date has some 16 different events, bad events in Jewish history, is a proof that someone is actually directing history and controlling the affairs of mankind.
For the Jewish people, this month and this date, the ninth day of the month of Av, should be a sign and a wonder, a proof that our history is foretold by the prophets, as God said to Amos the prophet:
“Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.” – Amos 3:7 [NKJV]
Well, my dear brothers and sisters, if there is any proof that these words spoken to Amos the prophet, or by Amos, are clearly evident, it is in regards to the calamitous events that took place in Jewish history over more than a thousand years.
The portion of Matot starts with a very important subject and a very serious one for all people, but especially for men. This is what the Torah says:
“Then Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, ‘This is the thing which the Lord has commanded: If a man makes a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. Or if a woman makes a vow to the Lord, and binds herself by some agreement while in her father’s house in her youth, and her father hears her vow and the agreement by which she has bound herself, and her father holds his peace, then all her vows shall stand, and every agreement with which she has bound herself shall stand. But if her father overrules her on the day that he hears, then none of her vows nor her agreements by which she has bound herself shall stand; and the Lord will release her, because her father overruled her. If indeed she takes a husband, while bound by her vows or by a rash utterance from her lips by which she bound herself, and her husband hears it, and makes no response to her on the day that he hears, then her vows shall stand, and her agreements by which she bound herself shall stand. But if her husband overrules her on the day that he hears it, he shall make void her vow which she took and what she uttered with her lips, by which she bound herself, and the Lord will release her.’” – Numbers 30:1–8 [NKJV]
This text in God’s word, is for me a flag and a warning that especially in our time must be clearly spoken and pointed out for all who say that they believe the Bible. You see, culture is a very strong power, but it is not always God’s power. Today the religious world, both Judaism and Christianity, is being dragged and follows the modern culture of the West. A culture that is contaminated by two very powerful events that sound good and sound right and sound just, the French Revolution, and the American Constitution. Yes, don’t be shocked, please!
The French Revolution is an important event in the history of modern politically-correct culture. The American Constitution is even a more important document because is has done so much good for the American people and for all the West. I would not want to live in a world that does not know the American Constitution, that was created by mostly Christian men.
The problem is not with the constitution, but with how people in the 21st century interpret it. Equality is equality before the law, before the court of law, not anywhere and everywhere. When this equality is taken out of the context it creates the need to have in public places one bathroom for both men and women, and for the LGBTQ society.
When the promise of the constitution of the USA promises “the pursuit of happiness” to all citizens, this would work in a society that has biblical values and a damper on selfishness. But, when in our modern society selfishness is the “bon ton” and the chief motivator both in the workplace and at home, in school and even in the church, then the combination of the promise of equality to all, equality without borders, reason, or rhyme, and the promise of “the pursuit of happiness”, this creates a cultural and moral atomic bomb that will explode society and destroy this wonderful country of the United States of America. With this, Western Civilization and the Judeo-Christian faith and culture will also be greatly damaged.
What are we committed to? Look at the text above from Numbers 3:1-8, look at other texts in God’s word, like 1 Timothy 2:8-11, does God hold on to what He revealed to our forefathers and messengers of God like Moses, the prophets, and Yeshua and the apostles, or have these words lost their power and authority?
The teaching of this parasha is clearly showing that the women are being protected by God and allowed to make mistakes, and have someone clear their mistakes and help them. I am envious of the women in the Torah and in the New Testament. When I make a promise that I can’t keep, I wish there was someone who could release me from that promise.
For me, it would be a blessing to have someone who could say, “OK Joe, you should have taken into account all the ramifications of your promises, but you didn’t, so let me take this burden off your shoulders, I am your father and I release you!” What a blessing that would be to have that opportunity to have someone who would help you in that way.
God bless you all who study the word of God with the faith of a child, and don’t try to cut corners, and square the round, and fit the word of God into our modern ungodly culture by ignoring it or twisting it. We all must remember that God is also a bookkeeper, and our actions and even our words are recorded there in His books. In the end scene, in the judgment of all flesh, these same books will be opened and our sentence will be read, and all will know why the just and righteous God has given us the sentence that we really deserve.
Culture is culture, but the word of God is the only standard and rule by which all flesh will be judged. The good for good, and the evil for the evil that they have done.
I am also asking all of you to especially pray for my family, Marcia’s family. Marcia’s father is 93 years old and his health is failing quick. Marcia and Barry, my son, and Beth, my daughter-in-law, are now driving to East Tennessee to the home of the Saunders family. These are really critical moments for the Saunders family, for my children, because these are their grandparents. Especially pray for Marcia to be strong and to remember to do what she must do for her health, and take the medications in time, especially the insulin.
Pray for Netivyah and the Roeh Israel congregation in Jerusalem. Yehuda is traveling today for Japan, and Daniel will be taking care of the office and the HaMotzi program of feeding the poor of Jerusalem with the faithful volunteers. Pray for Yehuda, as he is embarking on this long trip to the Far East. Just as you also pray for me because Yehuda is going from Israel to Japan, and I am flying from the USA to Korea.
Keep Noaam, our granddaughter, in your prayers. Keep Joseph Shulam, our grandson, also in your prayers. They are both 16 years old and starting their junior year in high school.
Please keep Marcia’s father and mother in your prayers, as Marcia and Barry and Beth are right now on their way to see Marcia’s father, who is probably in the last weeks or days in this life. Pray that June, my mother-in-law, and all the family, are strong and blessed and faithful, and full of hope of eternal life in God’s own presences.
Israeli politics are still the same, a total mess, and Israel needs the prayers of faithful Christians to intercede before God’s mercy seat for the fulfillment of His promises, and for the quick return of Yeshua the Messiah to Jerusalem, to set all things in order, and establish His kingdom forever! All this will be without democratic elections! This would be the most wonderful Kingdom, and it will be eternal, and it will even be without income tax and shopping! Praise the Lord of all forever!
The Middle East is still hearing drums of war between Israel and Iran, and Israel and the Hamas in Gaza. The situation is extremely serious, and needs for every disciple of Yeshua, and everyone who believes the Bible, to pray and pray and pray for the Lord of all to intervene in only the way that He can intervene, to stop this serious deterioration in the relationships in the Middle East.
The political parties are at each other, and all sides are spreading fake news and lies about each other. The mess is going on and growing like leaven in a warm and wet lump of dough.
Please be praying for our dear sister Emma in China, and add to your prayers a dear sister called Deborah Ruth who also lives in Beijing, China. Add to these specific prayers also special prayers for all our brothers and sisters in China who are followers of the Messiah. They are going through some not-so-simple times.
Keep Netivyah in your prayers. We need your prayers and your support. Remember Israel and that what happens in that small sliver of a country between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea is going to affect and set the tone not only for the salvation of Israel, but also for the salvation of the world.
Remember that more than three quarters of the world is still totally pagan, worshipping idols. I bless the brothers and sisters from around the world who love God, love Yeshua, and love Israel, and sacrifice for God’s kingdom and for the work of the Lord in Israel.
Please make an effort to join Netivyah’s 40th anniversary tour and seminar in November 2019. Our intention is to have one big tourist bus that holds 55 people. The numbers are approaching the limits, and I urge you that if you are interested to attend, you should be immediately registering and making your financial deposits.
Time is getting very short, dear brothers, if you would like to take part in this very special time in the land of Israel, with unusual and special events that will inspire and refresh and encourage and bless you from the land of Israel, and from fellowship with Netivyah, please act quick and register and send your deposits as soon as you can.
I ask all of you to mobilize your prayers to pray for the Aliyah and the return of the Anussim, both spiritually, outside of the adulterated brands of Christianity, back to the pure waters of God’s word, and also physically, to the land of our forefathers, the land of Zion, Jerusalem.
Please don’t forget to pray for my family, and especially for Marcia my dear wife, and Danah and Noaam, and Barry, Beth, Joey, and all those on this prayer list – that God will be glorified in their lives and in their healing.
Keep Elena Litvak, Efim’s widow, in your prayers, and sister Altamiro from Belo-Horizonte who also lost her dear husband Dr. Altamiro. Our brother Bob Weiner is still in need of our prayers. Please remember our dear brother Jacob Damkani in your prayers.
Please pray for Dr. Song and his dear wife Dr. Kim. They are Korean brothers for whom I have the most special respect and love. They have done, and I pray will continue to do, so much good for Israel and for the Jewish disciples of Yeshua in the land of Israel.
There is a split in Korea among those who love Israel, and sincerely want to bless and see the salvation of Israel soon and with their own eyes. This split is in much need of prayer, and the prayer should be to rebuild what the divider has divided, and unite the forces in Korea and in the world that hear from God and accept God’s word and promises, and want to act to have a part in the prophetic future of God’s promises.
Please keep the whole Abu-Eid family in your prayers. Please continue praying for baby Lion from the Huch family in DFW.
Please pray a special prayer for Anna West (she is 99 years old and continues praying for the salvation of Israel daily). You can also include Ann’s dear son Roger and his family in your prayers.
Pray for our Jewish brother Hillel from Helsinki, and Keijo and Salme in Nokia, and for Tim Tucker, Anne-Mirjami, Satu-Maria and Anna-Majia, Sinni Tuuli, Erki and Sirpa Murto, Evelina, and Eva H., all in Finland. Pray for our dear sister Leah, who is traveling to Finland this week. She is one of those volunteers from Finland who came in 1973, during the war, and has served the Jewish nation as a volunteer nurse for many years. She just had her 88th birthday.
Pray for Patty, Andrea, and Tineke – and our brothers and sisters in the Netherlands that need healing from God.
Continue to pray for Julia and Victor. Pray for our dear sister Paula in Switzerland who needs a divine breakthrough. I want to also add Barry and Dalia, two dear brothers who live in Tiberias and are suffering from illness and pain, and are in need of prayer and help.
I would like to add a dear brother and the son of a dear family of Netivyah supporters in Finland. Their son Aaron Tani is a young man with diabetic problems. Aaron has a family and children and he needs our prayers urgently. Please pray for Aaron Tani.
Please keep praying for a dear sister named Zhou WenriIan living in China. Please intercede for Pastor Isaac in Chennai. Pastor Isaac needs healing for his kidneys.
Please lift in your prayers the following brothers and sisters who need the Lord’s gracious touch of healing: George, Gary, Melanie, and Aaron Tani. Nancy Hook and her family need special prayer for Don’s health and Aaron their son’s situation and health. Also, our congregation members, Sarit, David S., Gabriela the adult, Ahuva, Leah, Ilana, Hannah, young Gabriela, Zvi D. and Batsheva, and Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva. Our dear sisters Laurel, Orna, Sima, and Aviva.
A special prayer is needed for one of my godsons, David B.A., and his family, and especially Elhanan and Julie David’s father and mother, my dear friends and brothers. Keep the whole family in your prayers.
These are brothers and sisters from around the world who need your prayer and your intercession, and healing: Paulo and Noami, Marcelo’s parents, Curita Sensei, the Abe family, Toru, Takeo Sensei, Daisuke Sensei, Tomoko San, Yumi, and her father and family.
This prayer list is very special because we are not only praying for the physically sick brothers and sisters. We are praying for healthy brothers and sisters who are a blessing in God’s Kingdom, but they need that extra “what do you call it” to succeed and become a bigger blessing for the Lord and His kingdom.
In Hong Kong, we pray and ask you to join us and pray for Louisa and Tony. Keep our dear brother Goh and his family in your prayers. In Korea pray for Sister Christy. Please keep brother Michael Knezevich in prayer. Please add to your prayers Ismael Alves who lives in Portugal, and Asher Gabriel in Kenya.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish! The best is yet to come!
The Lord God of Israel and the grace of Yeshua our Messiah, King, Teacher, Rabbi, and Lord be with you all!
