Jerusalem Prayer List August 15, 2019

I am in the second day of the Asia Messianic Forum conference in Bangkok, Thailand. There are 20 Asian countries represented here. There are representatives from countries like Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Laos, Cambodia, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, and other countries. Some 700 delegates from Asia are present participating in this conference. The main speakers are from Israel: Peter, Asher, Yehuda, and your humble servant. The teaching subject is: Restoration of Oneness / Unity of the Body of the Messiah. The teaching is excellent, and the response of the people is also excellent. We have seen steady progress since a…

Jerusalem Prayer List August 10, 2019

Today starts the Asian Messianic Forum’s youth “camp” – the Asian Messianic Forum will start on Tuesday. I find it interesting that our Asian brothers planned this Asian Messianic Forum to start on this day of remembrance of the fall of the Jerusalem Temple for the second time. I am not even assured that they know what the 10th of Av means to the Jewish nation. It is a day of deep sorrow, that we as a nation caused the Almighty God and creator of the universe, who loves us and His world beyond our understanding, to destroy the Temple…

This Shabbat the reading is from the last few chapters of the book of Numbers. This is a double Torah portion. The reading is from Numbers 30:2–36:13. The portion of the haftarah, the prophets, is from Jeremiah 2:4-28, 3:4,4:1,2. This next shabbat, August 3, 2019, is the second of Av, 5779. This means that Friday is Rosh Hodesh, the New Moon of the month of Av. The month of Av is a very special month. Because it is the month on which so many calamities, and I dare say fulfillments of prophecies of the wrath of God, happened. The Temple…

I just noticed that I was in the United States of America and when I checked the Parasha on the internet – I forgot that in Israel the reading of Phinehas is this week and in Israel the reading this shabbat is from Parashat Matot – Numbers 30:2 – 36:13.  Well, I have already written again on Phinehas and there are some new ideas.  So, maybe in the middle of next week on the flight between Los Angles and Seoul, Korea I can write something on Matot.  For now, enjoy Phinehas with some new insights. The Torah reading this next…

This Shabbat the Torah reading (in Israel) will be Parashat Pinchas (Numbers 25:10-30:1) and the reading from the prophets is from Jeremiah 1:1 – 2:3. Last week we read the dramatic story of Balaam and his donkey. The donkey was smarter than the famous magician with an international reputation. This week the reading starts with a very dramatic event in Israel’s camp. The president of the tribe of Simeon, Zimri the son of Salu, took the princess of Moab, Cozbi the daughter of Zur, and had sex with her in public in front of the Tabernacle of the Lord. This…

The reading of the Torah this week (in Israel) is from Numbers 22:2-25:9. It is called Balak, because Balak the king of Moab could not have a victory over Israel, and he wanted to destroy Israel before they arrived in the land of Canaan. So, he saw that he could not have victory over Israel, and he wanted to enlist the help of the divine powers to be able to have victory. In the history of biblical narrative and Jewish folklore, Balaam became the arch villain of all ages. From the book of Numbers all the way to the book…

This week the Torah reading is from Parashat Chukat, Numbers 19:1-22:1, the reading from the prophets is from Judges 11:1-23, and from the New Testament from John 3:10-22. These recommendations to read from the Torah on Shabbat are not my invention. They are the recommendations of the apostles in Acts 15:21: “For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.” – Acts 15:21 [NKJV] I can’t stress enough the importance of every disciple of Yeshua to read regularly, and repeat every year, the reading of God’s word from…

The upcoming Torah portion is Parashat Korah, from Numbers 16:1-18:32. From the Prophets the reading will be from 1 Samuel 11:14-12:22, and from the New Testament from Romans 13:1-7. This is especially a difficult Torah portion to write about this Shabbat. It is especially difficult because in one month Israel has lost three pioneering leaders of the Messianic Jewish body. All three passed away and crossed the line from the physical realm that we call “life” to what is called “eternity.” Eddie Santoro, with whom I had a shallow acquaintance, but always correct and gracious, died after several years of…

The reading on this Shabbat (in Israel) is from Numbers 13:1-15:41, Parashat Shelach. It begins with the words “shelach lecha” in Hebrew (“send for yourself”). From the prophets, the reading is from Joshua 2:1-24, and from the New Testament we read Luke 17:1-18:43. I include these readings in this prayer list because I believe that every serious student of God’s word ought to be reading the word of God: New Testament, Old Testament, and the Torah readings that are being read every Shabbat in every synagogue. This is a simple but effective way to identify with the Jewish nation and…

As you can see, much of the long reading this next Shabbat is dealing with the lampstand that was built for the Tabernacle, and later also placed in the Temple in Jerusalem. Later yet, after the destruction of the Temple by the Roman General Titus, who later became Caesar, the Titus…

A Call to Give God Our Best: A Biblical Study on Shavuot

shavuot

There are three pilgrimage feasts in the Torah: Passover, Shavuot, and Succoth (which is the Feast of Tabernacles). On these feasts, Jews and non-Jews from all around the world would gather in Jerusalem to worship the Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The Feast of Shavuot was very special because it ended 50 days of harvest and gathering of God’s wealth in the provisions of the land. One of the main aspects of this Feast of Shavuot was the bringing of the firstfruits to the Lord’s house in Jerusalem, and presenting them to the priests and Levites in…

Parashat Bamidbar: The One Thing People are Willing to Die for

parashat-bamidbar

Read the teaching below, or watch a video of the teaching by Yehuda Bachana. This Shabbat we read Parashat Bamidbar. The name of the weekly Torah portion is determined by the first word that appears in it, so too is the name of the five books of the Torah. The name is determined merely by the first word appearing in it, and not necessarily according to the content. The Hebrew name, Bamidbar, means “in the desert”: “The Lord spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting in the Desert of Sinai…” – Numbers 1:1 [NIV] The English name for it…

Report: The Second B’nei Anusim International Conference in Portugal, May 2019

Anusim

The Second B’nei Anusim International Conference that we and our brothers from Brazil organized with the towns of Castelo de Vide and Trancoso, Portugal was wonderful! To those of you who could not attend but supported in prayer, we extend a special thank you. The previous Portugal conference, nearly 10 years ago, raised international interest in the Anusim (the Sephardic Jews also called Marranos, New Christians, and Crypto-Jews that were ordered to convert to Catholicism or else flee Iberia for their lives). That conference preceded, and through raised awareness, led indirectly to the subsequent founding of multiple Israeli organizations whose goal…

The title of the conference was: “The Jewish Presence in Portugal: Restoring a Lost Heritage.” This was the second international conference organized and held in the town of Castelo de Vide, Portugal. Parashat Behar: We Have the Power to Change Torah

parashat-behar

Read the teaching below, or watch a video of the teaching by Yehuda Bachana. This week, we study Parashat Behar. It talks about of the sabbatical year, the year of Jubilee, and the redemption of land – the return of all real estate to their original owners. Further, it discusses the notion of helping others and lending money. According to our portion, a loan is supposed to be free of interest, in order to help your neighbor get back on his feet. Likewise, it mentions that if someone is in a difficult situation, he can sell himself as a slave. Therefore, our parasha also teaches us about the…
