Jerusalem Prayer List June 20, 2018
The reading of the Torah this coming Sabbath is from the book of Numbers 19:1-22:1. Chapter 19 introduces a very different concept in the concept of atonement and purity in the camp of Israel. The RED Heifer – a very different and strange kind of sacrifice that was essential for purification of the children of Israel and purification from Leprosy, and from touching the dead, and from other impurities that could keep a person from the privilege of worshiping God in the Tabernacle in the Wilderness and Temple in Jerusalem.
“Now the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, “This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD has commanded, saying: ‘Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring you a red heifer without blemish, in which there is no defect and on which a yoke has never come. You shall give it to Eleazar the priest, that he may take it outside the camp, and it shall be slaughtered before him; and Eleazar the priest shall take some of its blood with his finger, and sprinkle some of its blood seven times directly in front of the tabernacle of meeting. Then the heifer shall be burned in his sight: its hide, its flesh, its blood, and its offal shall be burned. And the priest shall take cedar wood and hyssop and scarlet and cast them into the midst of the fire burning the heifer.” (Numbers 19:1–6 NKJV)
Without the Red Heifer and the ashes of this sacrifice that was preformed outside the camp of Israel there is no way to purify oneself the children of Israel. This is what the writer of the book of Hebrews in the New Testament was talking about:
“We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat. For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp. Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate. Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach. For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come. Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” (Hebrews 13:10–16 NKJV)
Please notice that the writer of Hebrews says: Therefore, Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own Blood, suffered outside the gate (of the city). The book of Hebrews was written right at the eve of the fall of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. Yeshua (Jesus) already warned the people to flee outside of Jerusalem:
“So when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.” (Mark 13:14)
Now the writer of the Book of Hebrews likens the Sacrifice of Yeshua (Jesus) to the Red Heifer as the only sacrifice that can purify a person from Leprosy and other impurities and invites the followers of Yeshua to come outside the camp bearing the reproach of Yeshua because the city (Jerusalem) does not have continuity (it is about to fall) and we can through Yeshua continue to offer sacrifices of praise to God (Based on Hosea chapter 14:2ff).
This connection with the Torah reading of this Shabbat is important for us to understand and connect the two texts from the Torah and from the Book of Hebrews in the person of Yeshua and accept the invitation for us to be willing to step outside the CAMP (the box of our modern culture and walk with Yeshua) for He is the sacrifice that is continually being offered in our praise and the fruit of our lips and thanksgiving.
I confess that when I understood this connection between the Red Heifer and this text in Hebrews – I was in tears. You see as a Jew that like all the Jews remembers the fall of Jerusalem because of our sins as a nation and prays for the Restoration of Israel and the Restoration of the Church – this text shows the provision that the LORD provided for us as a nation and for all believers around the World to still have a continually offered sacrifice like the Red Heifer – and still outside the camp.
In the last few days Israel has suffered several barrages of rockets from Gaza and the citizens that live close to the Gaza boarder have had several nights without much sleep spent in their shelters. Yes, Israel has retaliated by bombing Hamas and Islamic Jihad buildings, but these people don’t mind the destruction of their headquarters and their ammunition dumps. They don’t even mind the death of their own children and relatives because when a terrorist dies his family will receive a salary for their life time from Iran and other countries of the axis of evil and terrorism. For the Hamas and the other terrorist organizations when their family members die fighting against Israel or traying to cross the security fence it is a win, win, situation. They get the sympathy of such countries like Turkey, and the Hezbollah, and Iran, and some sympathy from the EU and the United Nations automatically condemns Israel, and they get money from the same who praise them for sacrificing their family members and sending them express to meet with the 72 virgins. What do the women martyrs of the Islamic Jihad movements get no one knows!
Israel needs your prayers! It seems like our present situation is like one of those Guinea Pigs running on the wheel and not able to either stop or get off the ride. WE need a divine intervention between the sons of Isaac and the sons of Ishmael. This war is not new and almost every analyst will tell you that the roots of this enmity are very deep in history of the two nations. It is not about land it is about hate and religious dogma that fans the hate and the murderous aims and desires of the sons of Ishmael against the sons of Isaac. In my opinion it will take a divine intervention or a full victory to put an end to this enmity and blood-shed. Please pray and pray that God Himself will do what He only can do to put an end to this enmity and hate and desire to wipe out the nation of Israel. This is what they want, and this is what God will never allow to happen.
