Jerusalem Prayer List August 23, 2018
The weekly reading in the Synagogues around the world is from Deuteronomy 21:10 – 25:19. It is a long reading and full of very important instructions from the Lord God of Israel for the community. Like all of God’s Word from Genesis to the end of the book of Revelation most of God’s word does not deal with religion at all but deals with real life and the challenges that all human beings face in life and sometimes daily. Let me give you a short outline of the issues that this week’s reading Ki-Teze (If (as) you go out):
Deut. 21:10-14 – What to do with a female captured during war. This is especially relevant today after we have seen and heard what ISIS has done in Iraq and Syria. This is especially important because we have seen ISIS – all in the name of Allah – take young girls as sex slaves and sell them for 100 $US to others. This portion of the Torah dealing with some of these issues over 3000 years ago – gave the people of Israel different instructions.
Deut. 21:15-16 – The first-born male in the family inherits 50% of his father’s wealth. Today this might not seem fair, but when you consider the socio-economics of that old world and in comparison, even in our own days – you will see what great wisdom and fairness God’s Word has.
Deut. 21:18-21 – What to do with a rebellious and renegade child!
Deut. 21:22-23 – This is the issue that the Apostle Paul is dealing with and explaining in Galatians 3:13 and Acts 5:30 both refer to this text. In some old Jewish traditions this text was associated with the Roman practice of crucifixion and this is why Paul and Acts bring this forward.
Deut. 22:1-4, This deals with the responsibility to restore what you find to the rightful owner. You are supposed to do all that is within your possibility to find to whom the find belongs and to restore it to the owner. In the same text you have the good Samaritan law. Deut. 22:4, “You shall not see your brother’s donkey, or his ox fall down along the road, and hide yourself from them; you shall surely help him lift them up again.” The argument of the Gospel is that “how much the more if you see your fellow human-being fallen or hurt or damaged on the side of the road.”
Deut. 22:5, There has to be a clear difference between the sexes. Male must not wear or pretend to be a female. The difference must be held and seen in public. I realize that today this is not “politically correct.” The question that I have is whom are we, the disciples of Yeshua going to follow? Are the Disciples of Yeshua going to join the WORLD or are they going to follow our Lord – Master – Rabbi – Savior?
Deut. 22:6 -7, Being humane to animals and especially to the little birds that do no harm but only bless nature and humanity.
Deut. 22:8, Take responsibility for your action and do it before an accident happens – build a fence around the roof of your house is only one example of this great principle.
Deut. 22:9-12, This Scripture has great importance today. The principle is that are things that don’t mix, and we ought not to mix them. Yes, at first sight some of these things don’t make sense, but after you think about it you see the great wisdom of God. You start mixing together things that by nature don’t mix and even if they are benign.
Deut. 22:13-23:9 – These are the regulations from God against incest (sex with members of your family, your children or your mother-in-law. We see in 1 Corinthians 5 that in the church there was a person who was not too smart and was having relationship with his mother in law.
Deut. 23:10-15, How to keep the camp / family / church / community pure and spiritually clean. This issue is of great importance even today – how much sin and impurity does a community suffer before it becomes a plague!
The rest of the portion deals with a non-Israelite slave who runs away from his Israelite master – He must not be caught and returned to his master. He must be allowed to stay free. The concept is that no-one runs away from the good. If he ran away it must be that his master did not treat him right. There are other issues in this portion of the Torah – like forbidding prostitution, a worker has the right to partake of his work and ox must not be muzzled while treading the grain, marriage and divorce, social behavior and financial responsibility, dealing with damage that is not physical but emotional and public embarrassment.
My point is simple – most of the Torah does not deal with super spiritual and religious issues. The Torah deals with life – with building a healthy and Godly society that has righteous and just and equitable life for all of its members and even for the stranger that is passing by. The religions have taken this fountain of fresh and good water and sealed it under the heavy burden of religion and dogmatism that has snuffed the life out of both Judaism and Christianity. I know from Isaiah 1 and Jeremiah 7 and Hosea 6 – that it makes God ill when His people become so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good. We must all remember the words of the prophets and the words of the Apostle Paul to the people of Athens: “God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, “For we are also His offspring.’” (Acts 17:24-28)
Well, now it is time to get off the soap-box and get on my knees to pray for the long list of brothers and sisters around the world.
I will start with my own family: Please continue to pray for Marcia my wife, and Danah my daughter and Noaam my granddaughter, and Barry my son, and Beth my daughter-in-law, and Joseph Shulam my grandson, and for Marcia’s family and Beth’s family. The burden for the family is the greatest burden in my life and the truth is that I have been praying for Marcia more than 50 years daily and although I am grateful for God’s mercy and patience with me – I am still begging Him to show mercy to my wife and children and their families.
I would like to ask you to pray for all the brothers and sisters in Bulgaria. Bulgaria is the only country in continental Europe that did not hand the Jews to the German Nazi death camps. The disciples of the Lord in Bulgaria are good people sincere and seeking the Lord. I want to see Bulgaria blessed but especially our brothers and sisters there blessed, both spiritually and physically.
Thank you for praying for Daniel and Shir-El who had a wonderful and successful trip to Asia and are now back home.
Thank you for praying for the seminar in Bulgaria and for Hannah who is also back home in Jerusalem now.
Marcia and I are still on the road in the United States and enjoying both family and work. Please keep us in your prayers for safe travel and opportunities to do good, give hope, and bless brothers and sisters who are praying for us and for Israel and standing with us and with Israel.
Israel and the Israeli government need our prayers and so do many of our countries. It is a command of the Scriptures to pray for our rulers and governments. Let us all keep our own governments in prayer and also all pray for Israel too. Why is this important because the eyes of the Lord and the eyes of the world are looking at what is happening in Israel and even those who don’t believe in God and don’t believe in His promises – know that the Middle East and especially Israel have the keys for world peace and redemption. The situation with Gaza and the Hamas is one day showing good promises and the next day disaster. I believe that Ishmael is again playing with Isaac with intend of destroying Isaac. This was the reason that this righteous woman Sarah the wife of Abraham wanted to cast her own maid-servant and her son Ishmael. Sarah understood what the world does not understand – that there cannot be a compromise with those who have zero good will toward you and all their existence is one – to destroy Israel’s future because Israel’s future is the salvation and redemption of the whole human race. If there will be even a long term but temporary but sincere peace with the Palestinians it would be a blessing for all in the Middle East. So, please pray for Israel and all the neighbors around us.
Please keep praying for the replacement of the vehicle of Netivyah. We have a van that is very old and needs replacement. This van serves every aspect of the Netivyah Ministry, the HaMotzi food program, the youth, the old people in the congregation that need a ride to attend the congregation and many more needs. Please consider contribution specified for the Van. Another need is Netivyah general fund. The general fund is the fund that pays salaries and pays postage and telephone and insurance and printing and medial work and much more. So, those of you in the United States who need the tax credit contribute to the Netivyah USA account that way you will receive the tax credit and those of you outside of the United States contribute to Netivyah Israel.
Netivyah can’t do the Lord’s work without your prayers and without your financial help.
Rabbi Eliezer went through the angiogram successfully, praise the Lord.
I ask you to pray for Aliyah and absorption of the New Immigrants in Israel. It is of great importance that the immigrants who move to Israel, especially those who come already of age, to be accepted and helped and enabled to learn the language and the costumes of their new old land. Help us help those who are arriving in Israel now!
Ester the young mother with cancer for whom we have been praying is now gone to be with the Lord.
Jacob Damkani is better and out of the hospital. He still needs our prayers for a full recovery from a very serious heart condition.
Please continue praying for baby Lion from the Huch family in DFW. Little Lion is doing better in the last week and is back receiving Chemo-Therapy. It is a big this for a little baby to do through this ordeal, but we pray that his suffering now will bring blessing in the future.
Please continue to pray for our Jewish brother Hillel from Helsinki. Pray for Patty, Andrea and Tineke are all in Netherlands and need healing from God.
Continue to Pray for Julia and Victor our dear sister and brother who both need healing and God’s help. Please keep praying for a dear sister named Zhou Wenlian living in China.
Keep praying for the planned conference in Portugal in May 2019. This conference is to awaken governments and the world attention and press for the Restoration of the Anussim (Marranos) both spiritually and physically to their naturals home.
Margareta is a dear Orthodox Jewish sister who needs deliverance and healing. Please keep praying for dear Ruby. Ruby has been diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer. She is now doing Chemo-Therapy and it is very hard and difficult for Ruby. She is a real soldier of the cross.
Pray for Um Abu-Eid is a dear old Arab sister. Please pray for her healing and strength. The list is still the same Bida, Dr. Altamiro and Cassia, George, Gary, Melanie, Aharon, Yuri Marianenko, Sarit, Ahuva, Leah, Ilana, Miraim, Yehuda H., David Stern, Paulo, Noami, Tim Tucker, Anne-Mirjami, Satu-Maria and Anna-Majia, Sinni Tuuli, Erki and Sirpa, Keijo and Salme, Evelina, Eva H., Horace and June Marcia’s father and mother, Marcelo’s parents. Curita Sensei, the Abe family, Toru, Takeo Sensei, Daisuke Sensei, Tomoko San, Sadako San, Yumi and her husband, and her family in Okinawa. Please pray Ritva Huhtala and for sister Oksanen they need prayer for illness. Please pray for Louisa and Tony in Hong Kong.
I have special concern for our dear brother Goh and his family, and for Sister Christy, Sister Laurel, and for Brother Michael Knezevich. I have a special request from a brother Moshe Daniel from Kenya for his ministry and for the brothers in Kenya. There are other brothers and sisters who have some important challenges in their lives and business. I am not mentioning their names, but each one of us knows people who are fine dedicated servants of God and are going through a difficult time in their work and business. If you would pray for those whom you know that need this prayer – the Lord will surly cover those for whom you pray and those for whom I pray. It is hard enough to live in this world and work and business related issues make it harder and as much as we pray for the spiritual issues and health issues – it is also important for us to pray for the financial health and blessing of our brothers.
Now is the time to seriously pray for the Peace of Jerusalem and believe in God’s promises!
